Peermade - nelliyampathy - Attapadi
PEERMADE (100 kms from Kozhikode)
Situated 915m above sea level, Peermede
is on the way to the Periyar Wildlife sanctuary. This pleasant hill
station was once the summer retreat of the Maharajas of Travancore.
Here you will find sprawling tea, coffee, cardamom, rubber and eucalyptus
plantations side by side with natural grasslands and pine forests.
Catch God's eye-view of this own country. From the highland area
of the Western Ghats in Kerala.
Tuck yourself away in quaint little stone cottages. Within the cool,
mist-capped mountains a good fifteen hundred meters above the plains
. Among rich loamy plantations of tea, coffee,rubber,orange and
spices. Vast open grasslands lined with gurgling rivulets. Rare
flowers that bloom once every twelve years. Spectacular waterfalls
and most exotic of wildlife. Take time off to relax in the pleasant
seclusion here.
NELLIYAMPATHY (52 Kms from Nenmara)
A forest range 75 Kms from Palghat,the Nelliyampathy
hills comprise a chain of ridges cut off from one another by valleys
of dense evergreen forests and orange plantations.This fascinating
hill station is at a height of 467 to 1572m above sea level. At
least 10 hairpin bends have to be negotiated on the ghat road that
passes through the breathtaking evergreen forests of Sahya Ranges.
Seethakundu at Nelliyampathy offers a panoramic view of about one
third the area of Palakkad district.
Accessing Nelliyampathy from Palghat is a sensation on its own,
as you negotiate over a dozen hairpin curves on the Ghat road passing
through the fascinating jungles of the Sahya Ranges.
ATTAPADY (38 km northeast of Mannarghat)
A beautiful synthesis of mountains , rivers and forests, Attappady
is of great interest to anthropologists. This is the habitat of
many tribals and Mudugas. The Malleeswaram peak is worshipped as
a gigantic Siva linga by the Adivasis who also celebrate the Sivarathri
festival with great fervour.
