Ingredients
Chicken – 1 kg
Onion(small) – 2 nos
(chopped)
Small onion(Kunjulli) – ½ cup
(cut into halves)
Green chillies – 3 nos
(slit)
Grated coconut - ½ cup
Tomato(big) – 1 no
(chopped)
Ginger – 1 piece
Garlic pods – 8 nos
Chilly powder – 1 ½ tsp
Coriander powder – 2 tsp
Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
Black pepper powder – ½ tsp
*Chicken masala – 1 tsp
Salt – As reqd
For seasoning:
Oil – 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – A few
Small onions(Kunjulli) – 3 nos
(finely chopped)
*Fry and grind to a powder the following:
Cinnamon(Karugapatta)
Cloves(Grambu)
Cardamom(Elakka)
Fennel seeds(Perinjeerakam) Preparation Method
1)Cut chicken into small pieces.
2)Grind together ginger and garlic into a coarse form.
3)Extract 1 cup of coconut milk from the grated coconut.
4)Heat oil in a non stick pan or a kadai.
5)Add onions and saute on a low flame.
6)Cover and stir occasionally.
7)When it turns to golden brown, add green chilles and saute.
8)Add ground ginger and garlic and saute well.
9)Heat chilly and coriander powders together in another pan.
10)Add it to the kadai followed by turmeric and pepper powder.
11)Pour 1 tsp of oil into the pan.
12)Add chicken masala and saute for 2 mins.
13)Add tomato and curry leaves.
14)When tomato becomes tender, add chicken and saute, until its colour
changes.
15)Add salt and half the coconut milk with little water(not too thick).
16)Cover and cook on a low flame.
17)When gravy thickens, add the remaining coconut milk and remove from
fire.
18)Heat oil in a small pan.
19)Splutter mustard seeds.
20)Fry chopped small onions and a few curry leaves.
21)Pour it into the curry for garnishing and to enhance the taste and
flavour.
